To rip audio CDs to MP3 files using CDex, you need to insert your CD, configure the LAME MP3 Encoder in the settings, fetch the track metadata, and click the “Extract to Compressed Audio” button (F9).

CDex is a classic, lightweight, open-source Windows utility that makes digitizing physical music collections simple and highly customizable. Step 1: Download and Install CDex

Download the latest version or the portable build directly from the official CDex Website.

Open the application. If your computer has multiple disc drives, select the correct one from the dropdown menu located just under the top menu bar. Step 2: Configure Your MP3 Settings

Before ripping, ensure your output files are saved in the highest possible quality and directed to the right folder. Go to Options > Settings (or press F4).

Select the Encoder: Click on the Encoders tab on the left. Set the Encoder dropdown to Lame MP3 Encoder.

Set the Bitrate: For optimal audio quality, change both the Minimum Bitrate and Maximum Bitrate to 320 kbps. This provides excellent sound fidelity that is difficult to distinguish from lossless files.

Choose Destination Folder: Click the Directories and files (or General) tab. Under Recorded Tracks, browse and choose the folder where you want your new MP3 files to live. Step 3: Fetch Album and Track Names (Metadata)

Instead of manually typing names to avoid generic labels like “Track01”, you can pull information automatically over the internet. Insert your audio CD into the drive. In the top toolbar, click on CDDB.

Select Read Remote CDDB (or click the CDDB icon on the right menu).

The software will look up the disc and automatically fill out the Artist, Album, Year, and Track list. Note: If the automated lookup fails, you can right-click any track and choose “Rename Track” to fix it manually. Step 4: Rip the CD to MP3
